Moving to Denver? Your relocation guide

Relocating to the Denver metro is exciting, and a little overwhelming from a distance. I'm Adam Zaitz, a Broker Associate on the B1 Team with Compass Colorado. I help people moving here find the right neighborhood and the right home, often before they ever get on a plane.

Share a few details in the form and I'll reach out within 24 hours with neighborhoods and homes that fit. Here's what I'd want you to know first.

Where to live: a quick guide

  • Golden: a small town at the foot of the mountains, with trails, Clear Creek and a walkable downtown. A favorite for outdoor lovers. Golden guide

  • Arvada: established neighborhoods, Olde Town Arvada's shops and restaurants, and good value for families. Arvada guide

  • Lakewood: the west side of the metro, with Belmar, big parks like Bear Creek Lake and a wide range of price points. Lakewood guide

  • Wheat Ridge: quiet streets, larger lots and quick access to I-70 and the mountains. Wheat Ridge guide

  • Highlands and Sloan's Lake: walkable city living near downtown, with restaurants, coffee and the lake. Denver neighborhood guide

  • Littleton and Highlands Ranch: the south metro, popular for newer homes, parks and trails. Littleton guide · Highlands Ranch guide

What homes cost

According to Redfin, for the three months ending August 2026, the median sale price was about $570,000 in Lakewood, $634,000 in Arvada and $849,000 in Golden. Typical time on market ran 13 to 24 days, and homes sold for about 99% of asking. I'm happy to send current numbers for any area you're considering.

Colorado buying basics that surprise newcomers

  • State contract forms. Every broker uses the same state-approved contracts, and every deadline is a specific calendar date.

  • Sewer scope and radon. Most buyers add a sewer line camera inspection and a radon test to the home inspection. Radon is common in Colorado and usually fixable.

  • Metro districts. Many newer neighborhoods carry a metro district tax on top of regular property taxes. It belongs in your budget before you fall for a home.

  • Hail and roofs. Hail is common on the Front Range. Roof age and condition can affect insurance cost and coverage, so I help you get insurance quotes early.

  • Title company closings. A title company handles the closing, not an attorney.

How I work with relocating buyers

  • A call within 24 hours to learn what matters to you

  • Video tours if you can't fly out yet

  • A custom search straight from the MLS, so you see new listings the day they hit

  • Introductions to a local lender, inspector and insurance agent

  • A clear plan for one well-organized house-hunting trip
